Firefox is an open source web browser which has been developed by thousands of programmers all over the world. The number one reason why Firefox is a better web browser than Internet Explorer is because it is open-source. This means the browser is not developed by any one person or company, but by thousands of everyday users who simply want to make browsing a better experience.
Other than that, here are a few of our favorite things about Firefox:
1. Tabbed Browsing - Firefox is the pioneer of tabbed browsing. There have been others who have followed, but none compare with how Firefox handles tabbed browsing. Things like "recently closed tabs" and the ability to scroll through the tabs are a couple of examples of how Firefox makes browsing better.
2. Spell Checking - Firefox has a spell checker built in to the browser, so that when you are typing out an email or updating your blog, the browser will let you know when you have spelled something wrong.
3. Session Restore - With Session Restore, if Firefox has to restart or closes when it comes back you’ll pick up exactly where you left off. Everything from the windows and tabs you had open and which site those windows had in them, as well as what you have typed into forms and the downloads you were in the middle of, are all restored to where they were at when the browser was closed.
4. Protection from Spyware - Firefox will not allow a Web site to download, install, or run programs on your computer without your explicit agreement. Period. You will be notified whenever downloading or installing software, and Firefox will always tell you what’s happening so that you can stay in control of your computer.
7. Clear Private Data - Firefox offers the ability to clear all your private Web browsing data with just one click with the “Clear Private Data” tool. You can be confident that when you clear your private data in Firefox it’s gone - whether you are using your own computer or one at the library.
8. Add-ons - Over 1,000 add-ons are available. These add-ons can help you comparison shop, share bookmarks with your friends, see the weather in a corner of your browser, write to your weblog, get news, listen to music and much more. There are also many different themes available to download, which are created by developers all over the world.
To sum it all up, Firefox is developed by users for users. In the development of Firefox there is no corporate agenda and proprietary features specific to any one developer.
